About
My doctoral research focuses on a group of Oromo children enslaved in Ethiopia in 1888 and ultimately shipped to Lovedale Institution, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
My masters' thesis also touched on Lovedale: "A missionary life among the amaXhosa: the Eastern Cape journals of James Laing, 1830-1836" (UCT, 2006).
In addition, I am engaged in bibliographic and archival work relating to Mauritian slavery, indentured labour and forced migration.
The bulk of my professional research relates to the importance of climate adaptive architecture for libraries and archives, particularly in developing countries.
