In his PhD dissertation entitled "Satellite Coverage of the Arab-Israeli Conflict in Nile TV, BBC World and Israeli Channel 2", Saleh's approach provided, for the first time, a comprehensive description and analysis of the impact of the Arab-Israeli conflict on the Egyptian narrative and discourse and without doubt laid the foundation for further study of this endless problem in the Middle East.
Saleh's academic research works as an author, editor, and co-editor are part of an important body of publications including monographs and anthologies. He has also contributed to international academic blind peer review journals such as Journal of Democracy and Security by Routlege, Peter Lang Series, Global Journalism Research Series, Nordicom, Comunicar among many others.

Saleh published three books. The first one entitled "Unveiling the Truth about Middle Eastern Media. Privatization in Egypt: Hope or Dope?” was published in 2003, and the third book was an updated and elaborated version of the second book and was published in English in 2006. "Prior to the Eruption of the Grapes of Wrath in the Middle East" deals with conflict resolution, peace building, and crisis communication management.
Saleh's academic excellence is reflected in his being awarded several national and international prizes. This includes the best research paper of the year 2007 by the World Association of Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) in 2007, Arab US Association for Media Education in 2005 and 2006. Saleh is a reviewer in prestigious and top-listed publications such as Harvard's International Journal of Press/Politics, Journal of Media and War, as well as the Journal of New Media and Society.
Saleh’s work as a journalist and media educator was always motivated by his belief in mutual exchange, and scope enlarging the profession and research from the usual elite circles into others who are less privileged, as well as seriously attempting to help contribute in establishing a research culture. For example, Saleh served as the founding director of Cairo Media Centre (CMC)-The University of Modern Arts and Sciences (MSA) (2003-2004), which was a training media training centre, production house and a research centre.
Saleh was a consultant, and trainer for the Hewar Project of the USAID, where he organized a number of workshops to help the less privileged journalists and educators in slum areas and the southern governorates of Egypt (Qena and Beni Suef). Saleh was also a cofounder of the Arab European Media Observatory in collaboration with the German Foreign Office to instigate dialogue in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as generating research on the region. In addition, Saleh has been continuous training Iraqi journalists (04-09) through Associated Press (AP), as well as African journalists through the African Journalist Association, the Egyptian Radio and TV Union (ERTU) in Egypt.
Saleh chairs the Journalism Research and Education Section, and the regionalisation and membership committee in the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR). He is also a member in many international associations such as the World Association Public Opinion Research (WAPOR), the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS), American Association of Public Opinion Research (AAPOR), and Global partner in the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Media Literacy Clearing House.
